Don’t get stuck on the hamster wheel

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

You’ve likely heard the advice that you should work on the business, not in the business, many times.

And it makes perfect sense. When you’re too involved in the day-to-day operations of your financial planning business, you don’t have enough time or energy to focus on strategy.

However, when you’re a one-person show, working on the business is easier said than done. After all, there’s nobody to delegate to. So it can feel like you have no choice but to limit yourself to day-to-day tasks … which means you get stuck on the hamster wheel.

But you do have a choice. You need to carve out time to work on your financial planning business, if it’s just 30 minutes per week. Otherwise, you’ll stay in the same position, going round and round, rather than growing.

If you spend all your time focusing on the present, you won’t be able to build a better future.

This is where you write the content.

You can’t measure what’s going on inside people’s heads to know when or why thinking changes. There are some things in your business that you just can't put a figure on but your understanding of where those things are at will be critical to your success.
